Who We Are
… AND WHAT WE BELIEVE
We are a body of believers, striving to serve God, as best we can!
We are often called friendly and genuine, always aware we have room to mature.
We are always looking for more friends to share in the blessings and work of our Lord’s Church here at Maspeth First Church of Christ
We are a Christian Church – As Christians, we believe in one God who is Almighty. We believe God is One, yet Triune. He is revealed to us as three distinct persons: The Father, the Son, and The Holy Spirit.
Just Christians – We call ourselves Christians only but do not claim to be the only Christians. We are no different than other Bible-believing Christians. We are followers of Jesus.
Jesus is the Head of His Church – He is the Head of the body-the Church. (Col. 1:18) Jesus is the author and perfector of our faith: (Heb. 12:2b) Jesus is God come to us in the flesh. (John 1:14) He is truly Divine and truly Human, and as His followers we are given the privilege to serve Him in His Church.
The Bible-We believe the Bible Is God’s word revealed to us. We believe “all scripture is inspired and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training…” (2 Timothy 3:16)
We Seek Unity and Restoration – We desire to be obedient to Jesus’ own plea that the world be One in Him. We do not accept human creeds and dogma but wish to restore the Church to conform to His will and instruction to us.
We practice only the ordinances commanded by Jesus – One of these is Christian baptism which is universally recognized by all followers of Christ, the Immersion of the penitent believer. The other is the weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper as a simple memorial of our Lord’s death for our salvation (1 Corinthians 11:23-29). This is a platform all followers of Christ can accept. We are non- denominational However, there are over 5,000 independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ in the USA. President James A. Garfield was a member of a Church of Christ.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Our purpose within The First Church of Christ is rooted in Jesus’ purpose for His Church.
KNOWING “The Son of Man came to Seek and Save the Lost.” (Luke 19:10)
ACCEPTING His Commission to All Believers
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…” (Matthew 28:19-20)
This then, is OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
- We will- Strive to make disciples of all people
- We will- Strive to teach the need for obedience In everything Jesus has commanded us.
- We will- Upon an individual’s belief and repentance baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
- We will- Strive to nurture and edify believers.
